1. Using Travel Closet
You must be 18+ and complete identity verification to book or host. Keep your account details accurate and secure.
2. Bookings
A booking is a request until the host confirms. Your total at checkout is the daily rate times the number of days, plus the checkout fees itemized before you pay: a $5 cleaning fee per item, the protection plan you choose (see below), a card-processing fee, and applicable taxes. Free cancellation applies up to 48 hours before pick-up.
Protection (required choice at checkout, priced as a percentage of the item's rental price): each item offers exactly two options โ No Protection, or the one plan matching the item's replacement value:
- No Protection โ $0 (any item). I accept full responsibility for damage, loss, excessive cleaning, or repairs โ a refundable deposit for the item's full replacement value is held on my card at pick-up (section 5).
- Basic Protection (+10%) โ items valued under $500. Covers minor accidental damage โ small stains, loose seams, missing buttons, and standard cleaning issues โ with no charge to you.
- Standard Protection (+15%) โ items valued $500โ$749. Covers accidental damage โ rips, tears, broken zippers, stains, and professional cleaning needs โ with no charge to you.
- Premium Protection (+15%) โ items valued $750โ$999. Covers accidental damage, stubborn stains, and minor repairs on special-occasion pieces โ with no charge to you.
- Luxury Protection (+35%) โ items valued $1,000 and up. Covers accidental damage, staining, and expert repair or restoration on high-value pieces like wedding dresses and designer items โ with no charge to you.
3. Hosting
Hosts set prices and availability with no minimum rate, describe items accurately (including colour, size, and material), and keep listings ready to rent. Hosts receive the full rental price (daily rate ร days); Travel Closet's cleaning, protection, and processing fees are paid by the traveler at checkout.
4. Care & returns
Return items to the agreed pickup location by end of day on the return date โ return dates can't be extended, as items are often reserved by the next traveler. Items returned through partner locations are cleaned and inspected between trips. Excessive damage or loss may incur charges, as set out in sections 5 and 6.
Late returns: by booking, you authorize us to charge the payment method used at checkout a daily late fee per late item (shown at checkout; between $10 and $50 per day), capped in total at the item's replacement value. An item not returned within 7 days of its due date is treated as a non-return and you will be charged its replacement value (stated on the listing and at checkout) minus late fees already paid. You are responsible for on-time returns regardless of any third party involved. See the Late Return Policy for details.
5. Protection & deposits
Every rental includes a required protection-plan choice at checkout (section 2). In addition, travelers who choose a paid protection plan pay its fee at checkout and place no security deposit โ the plan is their coverage. Travelers who choose No Protection accept full responsibility instead, and a refundable security deposit equal to the item's full replacement value (stated on the listing and at checkout) is authorized on their card at pick-up; a declined hold is reviewed and manually approved by Travel Closet support before the rental proceeds. The deposit is returned in full once the item is dropped back off and passes inspection, within 72 hours of the return, minus only: (a) approved damage charges assessed by Travel Closet support; and (b) any unpaid late-return fees. If an item is not returned within 7 days of its due date, the deposit is applied toward its replacement value and any remainder is charged to the payment method on file (section 4). If a report or claim is open on the booking, the deposit remains held until the case is decided, and any remainder after approved charges is returned to the traveler. Partner locations document item condition with photos at intake and return. Claims are filed via the claims page and reviewed case by case. These protections are platform safeguards, not an insurance policy โ they do not replace any personal, renters', or homeowners' insurance you may hold, and they are not underwritten by an insurer.
6. Damage, loss & responsibility
Travelers are responsible for each item from pick-up until it is returned to the agreed pickup location. Normal wear from ordinary use is expected and never charged. Damage beyond normal wear, staining that professional cleaning cannot remove, loss, or theft while the item is in your care may be charged to your payment method, up to the item's stated replacement value, after review by Travel Closet support.
Hosts are responsible for listing items they own (or are authorised to rent out), describing their condition accurately, and setting an honest replacement value. Where Travel Closet collects a damage, late, or non-return charge, the host's share is capped at that stated replacement value. Travel Closet is a marketplace: the rental agreement for each booking is between the traveler and the host, and Travel Closet is not a party to it.
7. Prohibited use
No illegal items, misrepresentation, or attempts to take bookings off-platform.
8. Intellectual property & takedowns
Hosts confirm they own or have the right to use the photos and descriptions they upload, and grant Travel Closet a licence to display them to operate and promote the marketplace. If you believe content on Travel Closet infringes your copyright, report it via the contact page with the listing link and proof of ownership โ we review takedown requests promptly and remove infringing content.
9. Suspension & termination
You may close your account at any time; obligations from bookings already made (returns, outstanding charges) survive closure. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, create safety or fraud risk, or abuse other members โ with outstanding payouts for completed bookings honoured except where they relate to the violation.
10. Liability & indemnification
The service is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100. You agree to indemnify Travel Closet against third-party claims arising from your breach of these terms, your listings, or your misuse of rented items. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Governing law & disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before any formal proceeding, contact us first โ most issues are resolved within 30 days of an informal complaint. If we can't resolve it, disputes will be settled by binding individual arbitration under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules, and you waive any right to participate in a class action. You may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and you may opt out of arbitration by writing to us within 30 days of first accepting these terms.
12. Changes & severability
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced on the site or by email, and continued use after the effective date is acceptance. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in effect.
